Since 1991, we at PONY NEEDLES have been acutely aware of the deteriorating state of earths environment and, with this in view, we designed innovative packaging with no gluing or plastic to board sealing, thus ensuring that all PONY packaging was separable for easy recycling.
Tradition
The corporate headquarters and manufacturing facilities of Needle Industries (India) Private Limited are located in the Nilgiri Mountains, 2200 metres above sea level, in southern India.
Incorporated in 1949 as a subsidiary of a major British manufacturer of hand sewing needles, knitting pins and hard haberdashery products, manufacture commenced with the very simple gramophone needle. The product range was expanded over a period of several years and hand sewing needles, knitting pins, accessories, snap fasteners, hooks & eyes and a complete range of pins were all introduced and now constitute the bulk of manufacture.
During the 1960s and the 70s the ownership of the Company was slowly transferred into Indian hands and with this change in ownership came the introduction of the company’s own brand PONY, now sold on all the continents with exports accounting for some 70% of the company’s total turnover. The global success the company is the result of a dedicated management team with true commitment to quality and customer service, backed by technical excellence which has enabled the company to continuously improve upon manufacturing methods thereby improving product consistency and manufacturing efficiency.
Quality
The products are highly specialized and require a very high level of specialization in manufacture. The equipment consists of special purpose machines, designed and built to carry out very specific operations.
The quality of the product is assured by an established system of controls and checks at every stage of manufacture. Prior to packaging every product is subjected to critical tests to ensure its compliance with the company’s standards. All quality checks and tests are thoroughly documented and periodically verified.

SA 8000 is an auditable certification standard based on international workplace norms of International Labor Organization (ILO) conventions, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
